Osun govt intervenes, asks Benue community to end litigations

The Osun State Government has directed members of Benue community resident in the state to withdraw all pending cases over the leadership of the group.

The government has also inaugurated a committee saddled with the responsibility of resolving the crises.

Two factions have been laying claim to the leadership of the group, with the tussle resorting in litigations.

Inaugurating the Committee in Osogbo on Sunday at a meeting held with members of the Benue community, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, harped on the need for harmonious co existence.

He said, “Osun is known as a peaceful state and as a responsible and responsive government, we will always ensure a peaceful environment for both indigenes and non-indigenes.

“We have to sustain the peace in the state and not to give room for any crisis and this is the essence of this meeting for the two groups to resolve the issues and ensure peace. All pending cases must be withdrawn for the committee to look into the issues for amicable resolution.”

Appealing to the Benue community in the state to continue to support his administration, Oyetola also urged them to back his re-election in the July 16 governorship poll.

A statement by Oyintiloye, on Sunday, said the committee saddled with the responsibility of resolving the crises would be chaired by the Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mr Sola Oladepo, while Commissioner for Political Matters and Intergovernmental relations, Mr Taiwo Akeju, would serve as the Vice Chairman.

Special Adviser to the governor on Security, Mrs Abiodun Ige, would serve as secretary of the committee. The two factions fighting over the leadership would also nominate five persons each as representatives on the committee.
