Struggling Akwa eye Pillars scalp, Warriors host Enyimba

Akwa United will be hoping to return to winning ways when they visit Kano Pillars in their Nigeria Professional Football League match-day 21 fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Wednesday (today), while Abia Warriors host Enyimba in the Abia derby at the Okigwe stadium.

The Promise Keepers are without a win in their last four league games, conceding eight goals and scoring just twice.

New manager, Ayodeji Ayeni, earned a 1-1 draw in his first outing against Rivers United on match-day 20 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo last Saturday.

Today, they face struggling Pillars, who are also seeking a return to winning ways after their 1-0 loss to Gombe United on Sunday.

“Pillars are a good side but we’re going there to get a good result. I went seven games unbeaten with Sunshine Stars and I’m hoping to do the same here and better,” Ayeni stated.

In Okigwe, Enyimba are eyeing a double over neighbours Warriors, after the People’s Elephant piped won the first tie 2-1 in their opening game of the 2021/22 season.

In other games, Dakkada host Kwara United in Uyo, Enugu Rangers welcome Katsina United, while Nasarawa United tackle Heartland.

Remo Stars host MFM in a south-west derby in Ikenne, with Shooting Stars playing Gombe United 4pm in Ibadan after the League Management Company approved that the game be played earlier in the day as opposed to night football.
