Delta police arrest suspected robbers, cultist, recover arms

The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and a cultist.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Thursday in Asaba, the state capital.

He said, “On April 5, 2022, a distress call was received by the DPO, Ozoro division, that some hoodlums numbering about seven, suspected to be armed robbers, were in a criminal hideout along Oleh Road, Ozoro.

“The DPO Ozoro mobilised a combined team of police operatives and vigilantes, who stormed their hideout and arrested 18-year-old Solomon Awah Obaize and Oghenayoma Awah, 20.”

In another development, the PPRO said operatives attached to the command’s Raiders Squad stormed a suspected cult hideout at Umudiake Quarters, Asaba.

According to him, a 41-year-old man, Oaman Mathias, was arrested with a pump-action gun, 33 live cartridges and a locally-made Berretta pistol.

Edafe said investigation revealed that the suspect procured the gun from a man in Igbide community for N160,000, adding that a manhunt for other members of the gang was ongoing.
