Gunmen have killed two internally displaced persons in the Barki Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state.

It was gathered that the victims, who were earlier displaced in previous attacks in the Rantis village, had returned to the community to rebuild their destroyed homes when they were attacked by the gunmen.

The National President, Berom Youth Moulders Association, Dalyop Mwantiri, confirmed the killings to The PUNCH on Thursday.

According to him, three other persons were also injured during the attack.

The youth leader stated, “Another tragic incident has been witnessed in the Rantis village of Gashish District, Barkin Ladi LGA, where internally displaced persons were attacked on April 6, 2022. As a result, two persons have been confirmed dead, while three others sustained fatal injuries”

An eyewitness who survived the attack stated, “We have been working here (in Rantis) under a peaceful atmosphere to rebuild our homesteads after we were displaced by the Fulani herdsmen some years back.

“We didn’t know that our self-resettlement effort would be thwarted by another unprovoked attack.”

“As we were busy working, some armed Fulani herdsmen rode their motorcycles to the place. Before we knew what was happening, they started firing gunshots at us, eventually killing Mr Dalyop Jugu and Mr Yakubu.

“The attackers also burnt down a car belonging to one of us .Three persons namely; Dahol Jam, Samson Boyi and Badung Boyi Jugu, sustained injuries during the attack.

“They have been taken to the hospital for treatment, while the bodies of those killed have been recovered.”

Mwantiri called on the government and the security agents to fish out those who carried out the attack, and deal with them according to the law so as to serve as a deterrent to others.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ubah Ogaba, could not be reached for comment when contacted as his phones were switched off.
