Acommercial bus with eight passengers travelling along the Buguma/Degema/Abonema axis of the East-West Road, Rivers State, has been hijacked by gunmen.
A source said the hoodlums intercepted the bus around 7.30pm on Monday and whisked the driver and all passengers to an unknown destination.
The source said the bus was attacked around Ahiankwo Market on the Emohua-Kalabari Road while heading for the riverine area from Port Harcourt.
The whereabouts of the bus driver and the travellers was still unknown on Tuesday, even as the hoodlums had yet to contact the victims’ families.
The acting spokesman for the police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying efforts were on to rescue the passengers and apprehend the abductors.
She said, “Yes, we are aware of the incident, and investigation is ongoing. It was an Opel bus that was attacked and eight passengers were kidnapped.
“We have mobilised our tactical unit to ensure that the victims are released unhurt and also apprehend the kidnappers.”
