Tuchel reveals why he substituted Bayern Munich star after 14 minutes

Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel has explained why he took off Leon Goretzka after 14 minutes during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Koln.

The Bavarians retained their Bundesliga title thanks to Jamal Musialia’s 89th minute winner and Borussia Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Mainz.

Dortmund started the day two points ahead of Bayern, but Niklas Sule’s last minute equaliser proved to be a mere consolation as Tuchel’s men eventually prevailed on goal difference.

Edin Terzic’s side were still on the cusp of glory when Koln forced an equaliser from the penalty spot with just nine minutes remaining.

Tuchel then decided to introduce Musiala and Mathys Tel at the expense of Goretzka, who himself only came on in the 71st minute to replace Ryan Gravenberch.

Goretzka cut a disconsolate figure during the post-match celebrations and subsequent title party.

“That was a horrible decision for him,” Tuchel said after the game.

“I’m sorry about that, I apologized to him. But it was about the title in the last 10 minutes and we had to switch back to 4-2-3-1. I couldn’t take anything else into account.”
